The BSRA is designed to assess children’s knowledge of the concepts that parents and preschool and kindergarten teachers traditionally teach children to prepare them for formal education.Your child has probably learned the six basic skills assessed by the BSRA through reading picture books and daily interactions. The titles pictured above focus in on specific skill areas but children don't tend to learn these skills independently. As an example when you count objects it's natural to also talk about color, size and shape. The alphabet is learned in conjunction with words - the most obvious place to start being the child's name.

Our favorite products for all round learning at this age are the LUK Learning System and thinking skills books from The Critical Thinking Company (in particular the series Building Thinking Skills and Mathematical Reasoning). You'll find these, and more, in the product listing at the bottom of the page. Have a look at the sample pages (click on "more info" at the end of the brief description of any product then on the "samples" tab) and see what your child would enjoy doing. With young children they'll learn much more if they enjoy the process. Variety is important too.
